Modeling FAQ's
Will a reputable Modeling Agency require any money up front?
No, however, some expenses that a model will have to cover are photography sessions and composite cards. Modeling is a career and if you are serious about being a model there is a financial commitment that would need to be made just as with any career. Good quality professionally done photos are essential!
The agency is entitled to its customary agency commissions from model/talent bookings.
Do I need professional pictures?
YES! As with any job, you need the proper tools to be able to secure work. A portfolio is the models most important tool. Photos are the to be done at the models expense-we do not pay for your 'tools' necessary to be a model. Professional photographs done by an experienced photographer will make you stand out among the many other models in the industry. Be VERY wary of using TFP photographers. Generally speaking they are more hobby photographers or new photographers that may not necessary have the experience, skill level, quality equipment that a reputable professional photographer has. If you don't want to look like an amateur you shouldn't use an amateur photographer!
Do I need training to become a model?
You do not need training to become a model. However, without training you could potentially impact your chances for success if you do not know anything about the industry. If you are sent out to a casting call or ‘go see’ and are not prepared with how to present yourself, your portfolio, how to walk, etc, you could damage your chances of landing the job.
Will my Agent pay for my photos and training?
No. Training sessions may be recommended by your agent to accredited companies, but the expense is up to the model. Much like a student paying to study and train at any school. Your agent can recommend accredited training institutions.
Will my Agent pay for my pictures?
We will not pay for models pictures. Photos are the responsibility of the model. Many times it happens where a model will come in, pictures will be done and then the model decides that this is really not something he/she would like to do. This could potentially cost an Agency a large amount of money
How do I know if the agency or agent is a scam?
Some common scammers will say:
- "We can guarantee you work."
- "As soon as you are trained, you'll be working."
- "We'll have you working immediately."
*No agency can guarantee you work, or how quickly or frequently you will be working.*
Do I need a portfolio?
Every model should have a portfolio. The Portfolio is the models #1 tool. Cost for portfolios range depending on quality of product.
How often do I need to contact my agent?
You should maintain open contact with your agent, at least once a month. Models must take their career into their own hands as well as relying on your agent. For accuracy of your personal stats, you need to contact the Agency every 6 months with your current measurements. If you change your hair color or hair length, get any piercings or tattoos you must let your agent know immediately and send in updated photos.
Do I need to be on a website?
It is necessary to be on our website if you are hired to work with JK Models. This will increase your exposure and possibly provide you with more opportunities.
